I think one of the hardest things for us when we get sober is that we don’t look at it as a blessing or an answered prayer. Instead, we approach sobriety from a place of needing to atone for who we are. Because it doesn’t feel like a blessing and even if it is an answered prayer, our lives and emotional wellbeing don’t reflect it. We feel shame and humiliation for who we are so it’s easy to think recovery is a punishment.
So, let’s flip that script. Recovery isn’t about our pain reminding us our hearts are still beating. It’s about living, really living. It’s about feeling alive in ways you may have never felt, taking chances on yourself, chasing your dreams, honoring your journey as chaotic as it may feel, creating a bond with yourself and the Universe/God so strong that nothing will ever break you again.
This is your second chance. Sobriety is when you get to rewrite your story anyway you want. So choose to create a life that your present and past self would look at in awe and admiration of when they see the person you’ve grown into. Start by saying yes to the infinite possibilities that exist.

Say yes to being healed. Because there was never anything wrong with you, it was the way you were taught to think about yourself.
Say yes to following your heart. Because life is too short to live someone else’s dream.
Say yes to self-compassion. Because you deserve your own grace and respect.
Say yes to forgiving yourself. Because you’re learning and growing.
Say yes to trusting that everything is working out for you. Because everything’s always worked out for you- maybe not exactly the way you wanted it to, but it’s always worked out.
Say yes to happiness. Because happiness is a decision, not a destination.
Say yes to the simple pleasures. Because it’s in the little moments of joy, that we find the meaning of life.
Say yes to adventures. Because they give us memories worth collecting.
Say yes to the beauty of life. Because life can be messy and filled with chaos, but it’s also beautiful- it’s your beautiful mess.
Say yes to the lessons you’ve learned. Because heartaches are our greatest teachers.
Say yes to your divinity. Because you are the result of exploding stars, the Universe is within you.
Say yes to trusting your internal compass. Because it has never let you down and will take you to your destiny.
Say yes to leaving your comfort zone. Because the pain of staying in the same place is greater than the pain of leaving.
Say yes to becoming the person you need. Because the longest relationship you’re going to have in your life is with yourself.
Say yes to your destiny. Because you are the creator of it.
Say yes to your power. Because you are powerful.
Say yes to your future. Because those sleepless nights when you’re fantasizing about a different future, it’s telling you it wants you too.
Say yes to loving yourself. Because love is the portal that makes your dreams a reality.
I’ll see you soon…in the meantime, love yourself so much that even a Hallmark Christmas movie would be jealous.
