We can write down 100 things we’re grateful for, but if we don’t really feel it, it kind of falls short. It’s not that it doesn’t work. It just doesn’t give that extra oomph. It’s almost like writing your weekly to-do list- you do it so you don’t forget.
But when you feel gratitude from your heart, I mean the kind that makes you teary eyed and floods your body with emotions, it hits on a whole different level.
It changes you in such a profound way. You see things from a different lens. The words you speak to yourself- it’s with compassion. You forgive yourself for your past. You feel good about who you are. And you don’t fret the little things because you know with every fiber of your being that what you want is making its way to you, it’s just about Divine timing.
If you want to change the way you show up for yourself in sobriety, you’re going to want to find gratitude from your heart. If you haven’t already, grab a cup of coffee or tea, get comfy, and let’s help you to reach deeper levels with yourself.

WHY YOU WANT TO FEEL GRATITUDE FROM YOUR HEART
- The heart sends more signals to the brain than the brain to the heart.
- The heart possesses the ability to learn, make decisions, feel, and sense.
- The heart is 100 times stronger than the brain.
It begins in your heart- gratitude, healing, forgiveness, love, compassion, etc. Our feelings come from our heart, not our mind. Yes, we need to intellectualize our emotions because we need to understand what we’re feeling but we need to feel to embody who and what we want to become.
On a side note, all of the above information can be found on the Heart Math Institute.
HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT GRATITUDE FOR YOU
All you need is one heart centered gratitude. You’re also reprogramming your subconscious mind by repeating the same gratitude.
To pick a gratitude that you can come back to day after day without losing its emotional depth is the hard part. But when you find it, and you will, things change. You change. Because you’re no longer practicing gratitude. You’re embodying gratitude.
To pick the right one, it needs to stir up emotions. It’s something that’s meaningful and sentimental to you.
I’ll give you my gratitude in case you need some guidance:
My gratitude is from my suicide attempt.
Everyday when I wake up, I thank my biological father (he passed away when I was a kid and is one of my spirit guides) and Archangel Michael for never giving up on me, even when I wanted to give up on myself, for loving me when it felt like no one else did, for forgiving me even when I couldn’t forgive myself, for seeing me in a way no one, not even myself saw.
HOW TO FEEL GRATITUDE FROM YOUR HEART
STEP 1:
Place one hand on your heart. Our awareness goes to where the sensations are so this will help you to connect with your heart.
STEP 2:
Take slow equal deep inhales and exhales. Repeat this until you feel safe and calm. This activates your parasympathetic nervous system (rest, digest, restore, heal) instead of operating from your sympathetic nervous system (fight, flight, freeze, fawn).
STEP 3:
When you feel calm, feel gratitude for one thing. Remember to feel into something that resonates with you deeply. If you get choked up, that’s amazing- you’re connecting with yourself and the Divine in a way you may have never felt before.
STEP 4:
Repeat this gratitude everyday as many times as you remember. And if you can, do it when you first wake up, when you’re barely conscious while you’re still in theta state. It helps to reprogram your subconscious mind so you’ll begin living in a state of gratitude.
I hope this helps you. And remember, you got this. You can change your life in ways you’ve never imagined just by going within and connecting with your heart. Also, if you think someone may benefit from this, please be sure to share it with them. Thanks so much!
I’ll see you soon…in the meantime, love yourself so much that even a Hallmark Christmas movie would be jealous.
