witchy self-care

It’s all about indulging in the simple luxuries of life because when you do, life becomes better. With some witchy self-care, you’ll be connecting deeper with yourself and the Divine. If you think that you don’t have the time for it, think again. Most of the tips on this list will only take up a few minutes of your time.

Which means that it’s time to start enjoying your life a little more everyday by taking care of yourself. Because there’s no reason for us to work, pay the bills, and then die. Life is about relishing the little things, connecting with others who vibe on the same level as us, enjoying ourselves, and luxuriating in each day. And that all starts with you being actively engaged with how you take care of yourself.

1. Burn the guilt away for some witchy self-care

This is bar none the fastest and most productive way to rid yourself of guilt.  It seriously works wonders and lifts the weight off of your shoulders.

All you have to do is write down everything, and I mean everything on a piece of paper that you feel guilty about.  Anything that comes to mind shouldn’t be dismissed as frivolous because it surfaced for a reason.

Once you’ve aired out your gripes, fold that piece of paper in half. Go outside to a safe area and light it up.

Allow your guilt to get burned away with some quality self-reflection.

2. Self-massage with charged moisturizer

Who doesn’t love to indulge in a massage every now and then?  Instead of having to make an appointment, give yourself some much needed TLC by giving yourself a massage. Even if you only have five minutes, that’s all you need to get relaxed.

However, you’re going to increase the potency with a DIY charged moisturizer/massage oil. Because this is all about witchy self-care so we want extra love and magic infused. The best part is it only requires two ingredients, but you can certainly add however many you want, and takes about a minute to make, about 8 hours to charge.

Here’s what you will need:

  • Glass jar
  • Organic refined coconut oil
  • Lavender Oil
  • Amethyst
  • Clear quartz

In the glass jar, combine the coconut oil and lavender oil.  There are no quantities to this recipe because this is based on what you like so just eyeball and adjust the drops of lavender oil based on your preference.

Once you have the oil made, place the lid back onto the glass jar.  Place both the amethyst and clear quartz on the lid and let it chill out for about 8 hours to infuse your moisturizer/massage oil.

If you don’t have lavender essential oil or the crystals, there is no need to go and buy them for the sake of this recipe. Just improvise with what you have on hand and create your own magical self-care moisturizer.

3. Meditate your way to zen

While you may not think meditation has magical qualities, think again.  I’ve had some of the trippiest experiences from meditating- more than any other substance I’ve ever taken.  We’re talking about past life regressions, astral projections, and feeling my body heal on a cellular level.

The best part is that I didn’t force any of these states upon myself.  I allowed them to happen organically.

When you meditate, you’re building a deeper connection with yourself and the Divine because that’s when you connect with your intuition and access information that’s specifically meant for you.  You have the ability to gain so much insight about yourself and your current situation along with solutions on how to get out of any predicament you find yourself in.  Not to mention, the psychic downloads you receive when you’re in silence is just so amazing.

My entire business is structured around the messages I receive.  Not because I think that’s what people want to hear or because I want to discuss a certain topic.  All of my material is based on intuitive inspiration while in meditation.

There is no right or wrong way to meditate.  It’s whatever works for you and the experience that you choose to have with it.  All meditation really is is to silence your mind so that you can hear the inner voice, which is your compass.  Trust that inner voice because it will never steer you in the wrong direction.  It’s there to navigate you onto the right path and find your way again.

So, if you’re feeling stressed or anxious or feel that you want to find your life’s purpose or want to heal from a broken heart, mediate your way to zen.   Create magic in silence.

4. Find yourself with journaling

This may seem too mundane to constitute as witchy self-care, but it’s the same philosophy as mediation.  You access information that you wouldn’t normally feel privy to, because your mind isn’t at work.

When you journal and don’t even think about what to write, but just put pen to paper, you’re allowing yourself to be a conduit for Universal messages.  These insights help you to see the truth rather than your perception of reality.

Journaling will open the portal of what you need to heal, the path you should be traveling, what your heart truly desires, the job you should take, the place you should move to, the life you want to create, etc.

The next time you’re feeling lost or just need to decompress, engage in some witchy self-care with journaling.  You never know what door is going to open for you.

5. Protect yourself for empowerment

No witchy self-care ritual is complete without a little protection to keep your energy in harmonious alignment.  After all, you can’t create magic if you’re feeling depleted.

There are numerous ways to safeguard your energy to keep the energy vampires away or to not absorb someone else’s energy into your auric field.

Some great ways to protect yourself for empowerment are:

  • reiki
  • smudging
  • crystals
  • water
  • salt

Reiki

Reiki is a form of energy healing based on activating the 7 chakras (energy centers) within the body.  You can always get a professional session here or you can conduct it on yourself.  YouTube is great for this.  Just do a search for energy healing sessions and unwind while the work is being done for you.

Smudging

Smudging is great for keeping your energy on point before and after coming into contact with people.  Some awesome smudging tools are sage, mugwort, palo santo, or copal.

All you have to do is light up a stick, blow out the flame, and wave it around your body starting at the bottom or your feet all the way to the crown of your head without allowing it to touch your body.

Not a fan of scents?

Use a selenite wand.  Just wave it the way you would with a smudge stick and you’re clean and cleared.

Crystals

Crystals are a natural phenomenon which makes this super potent in reclaiming your power while engaging in witchy self-care.

To protect yourself from energies infiltrating your body, just carry one on your body.  It’s important that you consistently do this.

You want to develop a relationship with your crystals, not ignore them and expect them to work their magic. It may sound kind of cheesy to you, but they do have consciousness, just like us.

Set an intention and hold them in your hand for a few minutes until you feel a wave of peace wash over you.  Do this everyday.

Some crystals to protect your energy are:

  • Selenite
  • Clear quartz
  • Black tourmaline
  • Hematite
  • Black obsidian
  • Amethyst
  • Honey citrine (this one is actually great for empowerment so if you’re feeling down and out, this is your go to stone)

Water

As a natural resource, this is the freebie that works magical wonders.  All you need to do is charge some distilled water with a crystal of your choice under a full moon.

Here’s what I do:

Charge a 64oz glass jar filled with distilled water and a couple of crystals on the lid.  I leave it there overnight and by the morning, I have magical water.

Every morning, I put 2 tablespoons of the moon and crystal water into my morning cup of tea.  I also make sure to set an intention that I’m going to have a day filled with magic while protecting myself from harm and negativity.

I then imagine that I’m drinking magic.  Isn’t that morning cup of caffeine magical?  So why not treat it as such?

Salt

Salt has been used for protection for thousands of years so it’s not a surprise that it wound up on this list.

There are a few ways to protect yourself with salt.  They are as follows:

  • Keep a salt bowl inside your home at the entrance to collect the negative energies after each day when you enter your home.  It will need to be refreshed every few days to work its magic.
  • Line the outside of the perimeter of your home with salt.  Do this once a week or after a storm to always be protected.
  • Keep a vial of salt on you at all times.  All you need is a mini jar of salt and keep it in your pocket or purse.

With the myriad of ways to protect yourself for empowerment, you’ll be sure to find one that fancies your taste.

6. Sleep on your worries

We all have worries.  Worries about the coulda, woulda, shoulda or in times of uncertainty.

Which is why sleeping on your worries with a worry bag is the perfect antidote for witchy self-care.  This is super fun to do and doesn’t require too much of your time to make one.

To make a worry bag, you will need:

  • Muslin bag or any small bag you have
  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Broken crystals

Write down your worries on separate pieces of paper and fold them in small pieces.  Put them in the bag along with the broken crystals.  Tie it up.  Place it under your pillow before you go to sleep.  Voila!  Your own worry bag to sleep the worries away.

7. Wear your self-love

Wearing your self-love is exactly as it sounds.  Put on your favorite piece of jewelry as a token of your love to yourself.

Most days, I only wear one ring, a gift to myself to remind me to always love me no matter what. And when I put it on, I get so consumed with excitement. It’s not the ring itself; it’s what it symbolizes. Not to mention,I was serendipitously given a second chance with the ring.

I’ll give you a quick story. Several years ago, I was dating a guy who always cheated on me. Because I was too insecure to leave him, I stayed which only zapped my confidence more and more until there was nothing left.

Anyway, one day I had walked into Tiffany’s and stumbled upon a beautiful heart shaped ring with 2 pink sapphires on it. Back then, it was out of my budget. But, I knew one day I would have the ring I coveted.

So I settled for the same ring without the sapphires. I bought it not to have a piece of jewelry from Tiffany’s- it was so much more than that. Walking into that store had made me feel so alive, I guess the way Holly Golightly was whenever she would walk in there. I bought it as an amulet of self-love. That no matter what happened, I always had myself.

About 11 years later, my ring was stolen. I know it may sound a little dramatic, but it kinda felt like a part of me was robbed.  Because the ring wasn’t just a material possession. I bought it at a time when I was too weak and meager to raise my expectations and this ring was acting as my intention for what I wanted and what I knew I deserved. It was a constant reminder to always love me even when I felt that no one else did.

In that moment of being consumed with anger, my intuition told me not to worry about and that one day, I would get the ring back in an even better form. I let it go.  I could have purchased another one to replace it, but I wanted to listen to the inner voice.

Two years went by and on occasion, I got tempted to buy the ring.  But I never did.

At that point, I was working in a restaurant when a customer and I started to chat quite frequently. She mentioned to me that she worked at Tiffany’s but I never broached the subject because I didn’t feel right about it.

On one fateful day (yes, dramatic, but it really was kismet), she offered me her employee discount. Obviously, I said yes and mentioned the heart ring. But I didn’t bring up the one I had really wanted all those years ago because I didn’t want to take advantage of the situation.

Anyway, a few days went by when I received a text. She wanted to let me know that they didn’t have the exact ring I wanted in stock but they had something else and she thought it would be a better fit for me.

Guess what it was?  The heart shaped ring with the 2 pink sapphires. The one that I had my eyes on and my intuition told me that one day it would be mine.

So my ring means much more than a piece of jewelry to adorn my body with. And it’s not just about self-love anymore. It means to always listen to that inner voice because that voice, the inner compass, will never lead me astray.

If you have a piece of jewelry that’s special to you for any reason, wear it as a reminder to be the love of your life.

8. Unlock the subconscious through dreams

Dreams are the portal to self-awareness which is what makes recalling them such a great act of self-care. But, because this post is meant to be witchy, we’re going to take it up a notch. Through lucid dreaming that is.

I love when I have lucid dreams because I’m able to deconstruct my own blockages which can help me to see what sabotaging behaviors I have.

The more you can see what’s hindering your growth through the wisdom of your subconscious, the more you grow and evolve into the person you’re meant to be.

The best part of lucid dreaming is that it isn’t difficult at all. All you need to do is remember your dreams and start decoding them from an objective point of view. There are also a myriad of resources available on the internet to deciphering what your dreams mean.

If you’re prone to forget the dreams you have, all you need to do is create a lucid dream pillow. It’s so easy and works great.

How to make a lucid dream pillow with herbs:

Sew up a mini pillow leaving the last few inches free to stuff it. If you’re not crafty, just take an old zip up coin purse that you have laying around.

Combine mugwort, sage, and a cotton ball dipped in lavender essential oil and stuff it into the pillow or coin purse.  All you have to do is eyeball everything according to your liking.

Finishing sewing up the remainder of the pillow or zip up the coin purse.

Place it under your pillow before you go to sleep and allow the dreams to come in. Once you’re able to recall them, you’ll be better equipped to work through the psychological kinks. And when that happens, self-care starts to impart more meaning in your life.

9. Ground yourself with Mother Earth

Had someone told me ten years ago to connect with nature, I would have rolled my eyes and accused them of being a woo woo loonie. But, eventually with time,  I’ve relented and can now see the profound effects of what nature does for the soul.

You’re not just going to sink your feet into the ground for a few minutes and call it a day. You’re going to turn this into a ritual.

How to ground yourself with Mother Earth:

  • Take a few crystals or a talisman, along with a candle to your favorite spot outdoors. While you’re at it, bring a cup of tea, a journal, and a blanket. Make it cozy.
  • Get comfy and play some calming music. Light the candle with the intention of relaxing and grounding. Before you savor your tea, offer love to everyone in the world.
  • Feel your entire body connecting with the earth. Write down what you want from life, what your quintessential life looks like, and what you need to release to get what you want. Write anything that comes to mind.
  • Enjoy this moment. Take as long as you want. It’s your time.
  • When you’re done, if you haven’t finished your tea, pour it into the ground as an offering of your appreciation for the beauty that Mother Earth provides.

10. Soak away your stress

Water is the best form of cleaning your energies which makes taking a bath the ultimate way to decompress and unwind.

This entails creating a ceremony out of it to reap the full benefits of alleviating your stress.

How to create a witchy self-care bath:

  • Gather some herbs (anything you have on hand will work great, especially if you have dried flowers) and place them into a muslin bag. Tie it up.
  • Additionally, you’ll need some crystals, your favorite scented candle, relaxing music, bath salts (you can make them yourself), and of course, bubbles. No bubble bath is complete without Mr. Bubble if you ask me.
  • Once you have the bath filled with everything you want in there, set the intention that the water is going to spiritually cleanse and purify you.
  • Then climb in the tub and start thinking about what’s eating away at your zen. Let everything out. This is to help you release all of the hindrances and aid you in self-care.
  • As the thoughts are coming up, feel the weight of the water pulling it away from your body and mind. Allow the stress to be vanished in the water.
  • Keep repeating this until you feel light as a feather.

There you have it…ten witchy self-care tips to check out. When you engage in acts of loving yourself, you increase the magic that enters your life.
