Reclaim your authenticity: 5 steps to embracing yourself

reclaim your authenticity- five steps to embracing yourself

When you reclaim your authenticity, you can bring is so much more love and magic into your life.

The first step towards a better improved version of yourself is to allow your authenticity to shine. Authenticity seems to be a buzzword these days and can be easily misconstrued. So I’m going to clarify it before I get into the post.

What it means, at least to me, is to be so secure and confident with yourself, that other people’s opinions don’t play a role in how you conduct your life.

It can be anything- from someone telling you the job you should have, the clothes you should wear, the food you should eat, the car you should drive, the type of exercise you should be doing, the home you should be living in, etc.

Oh, wait. That’s society. Yeah, screw that.

Reclaim your authenticity

Anyway, authenticity is being brave enough to blaze your own trails. Not conforming to the status quo if it doesn’t make you happy.

It’s about unapologetically following your heart because you have your best interest at heart. Not anyone else. When you do, life becomes magical.

After all, no one is living your life but you.

If someone wants to live vicariously through you, that’s their prerogative. It’s not and shouldn’t be your concern.

Authenticity is about taking empowered action everyday to make yourself better than you were yesterday. It’s about discerning between the ego and heart and making a conscious decision to pursue the latter.

More than everything, authenticity is about being brutally honest with yourself, even if it hurts. Because you’re brave and smart enough to know through pain, you find pleasure.

Reclaiming your authenticity can seem so daunting in a world that’s running amok with a plethora of “du jours” you absolutely need or must try. But it doesn’t have to be. And it won’t be as long as you’re honest with yourself.

It does takes time and patience because instant gratification isn’t the name of the game here, but it’s so well worth the efforts. To bring in what you truly desire, like being fundamentally happy with your life and not faking your happiness, you have to be authentic.

How else will you ever be happy if you’re constantly putting on a facade of what you what the world to see you as?

Hiding behind a mask keeps the happiness at bay. Showing the uncensored you is where the happiness is at. You won’t even have to go in a futile pursuit of it anymore. Because happiness starts with now and being authentic is the prerequisite for you to be happy.

Guess what happens when you’re happy? Not just happy. But a deep feeling of gratitude for waking up each morning with a profound joy for breathing. Love and magic appear as if, well, by magic.

The best part is that it isn’t limited to a select few. Everything you want is right here and right now. It doesn’t have to elude you anymore.

Love and magic are awaiting your presence- on the other side where authenticity resides.

Get into the nooks and crannies and you’ll be rewarded with a person staring back at you in the mirror that is so pleasantly unrecognizable.

Which I’m sure you’re fully aware is rather difficult when you’re not 100% honest with yourself or others.

And that can be for various reasons. Whether we don’t want to see the ugly in us or we don’t want to hurt someone else’s feelings by speaking up. While I understand both and have been there myself, it hasn’t done me any justice when I didn’t accept my own flaws or just ignored someone simply because I didn’t want to come across as too brusque.

And guess what happens when there is a lack of acceptance or we refuse to confront a situation? It makes us downright miserable. It stews and festers until we completely lose it or even worse, subject someone else to our wrath.

So, then what’s the solution? It’s pretty simple. We take charge of our lives. Without this courage to own who we are, we’ll always fall prey to what’s lacking.

Now that we’ve covered the definition of authenticity, let’s get into how you can reclaim your authenticity, shall we?

In order to reclaim your authenticity, you need to accept everything about yourself. Both the good and the bad. Embrace every part of yourself and inevitably, love and magic will follow.

  • Do you get a little too angry at times?
  • Can be a little too dogmatic?
  • Do you tend to procrastinate?
  • Maybe you’re too impatient?
  • Being neat and organized isn’t exactly your forte?

Whatever the reason that’s keeping you from owning all of you shouldn’t be a deal breaker because you’re in a relationship with you. That also means not harboring any negative ill will towards yourself for past misdeeds.

If you can’t accept yourself for just the way you are, how will others accept you?

Your number one job is to love yourself unconditionally. Which brings me to the next one.

The fact of the matter is that the person that you’re going to have the longest relationship with is yourself. So, why the heck not enjoy your own company completely as you are?

Date yourself. Relish in your oasis of solitude. Do the little things that spark joy from within. Treat yourself to your favorite pastry, a fancy latte, go to a museum, or indulge in some quiet reading time with a quality book.

You don’t have to go out and create a lavish spectacle for yourself. But you do need to luxuriate in the little things that make you happy. The love and magic are in the small tokens of appreciation you give to yourself.

The more you learn to be your own best friend, the more you reclaim your authenticity.

In order to reclaim your authenticity, you need to embrace your emotions. Whatever feeling surfaces is there for a reason. Even the ones you don’t want to feel.

Anger, resentment, bitterness, pain, grief, sorrow and any other emotion that I haven’t listed, surfaces to navigate you towards happiness. The more you not only acknowledge them, but also embrace these emotions, the easier life becomes.

The more you repress the things you don’t want to feel, the uglier it becomes when they finally escape from the crevices of your psyche.

When you allow yourself to feel your emotions, you’re giving yourself a chance to let go. The more you release, the less of the chance that your growth will be hindered because of pent up emotions. Which brings me to the next step.

In a world that’s inhabited by nearly eight billion people, you’re not going to get along with everyone you encounter. That’s impossible.

Which means that if you feel your character and integrity are being insulted, you need to speak up. Not saying a word to someone for fear of not being liked will not garner you with respect, especially from yourself.

The quicker you speak up for yourself, the quicker you take back your power.

You’re here to be you, not conform to others opinions of you. That’s not to say you have to lack tact with people, because you do, but find the equilibrium of knowing when to speak up with authority.

That little voice telling you to pursue your passions is your compass in life. It’s there to navigate you to right path even if means taking the road less traveled. Heed that calling.

When you listen closely to where you’re being guided to go, your heart will be filled with happiness. Your soul knows what’s best for you and genuinely has your best interest at heart because it is your heart.

Even if the voice makes absolutely no sense to you, follow your intuition.

The wisdom that your souls knows isn’t going to steer you in the wrong direction. So don’t disregard or dismiss that intuitive gravitational pull. The more you resist the inner guidance, the further you slip away from yourself.

Your intuition is a magi that will always bring love and compassion with its guidance. The more you listen, the more love and magic come into your life.

Follow your intuition and you reclaim your authenticity.

There you have it…how to reclaim your authenticity with these five tips. Take your time implementing these steps because it’s about you enjoying yourself while you’re working your ass off on you.
