Ready to open your heart and boost your confidence? Then you’ll love this DIY self-love tea/herbal blend to aid you in your recovery journey. 

Whether you want to drink it during your morning routine, evening ritual or whenever you’re feeling down and out, this is going to soothe and comfort you in ways that maybe you didn’t know before. It’s also the perfect addition when you’re looking to create a new lifestyle routine. 

Made with Holy basil, rose petals, chamomile, damiana, and passionflower (all organic), this tea is designed to help you heal your worries and stresses, bring self-confidence, and promote self-love.

Herbs have always been a fascination of mine. When I sobered up six years ago, it turned into a passion. From making elixirs to tea to incense, anything holistic and herbal is my jam. For today, we’re sticking with a multipurpose blend that will include the uses and tutorials. 

While I’m all about the woo woo, I do have to make a disclaimer that self-love cannot be manifested. Only cultivated. I’m sure you know this, but the herbs can’t do all the work here. We’ve got to meet them halfway and do our part in healing ourselves. 

However, it’s always nice to have something to aid in the process of personal and spiritual growth. Which is why I created this blend.

BENEFITS OF DIY SELF-LOVE TEA

Holy Basil

Used in ayurveda for over 5,000 years, Holy basil, also known as Tulsi is considered to be “the incomparable one.” It’s an adaptogen so will help your body adapt to stress while exerting a balancing effect onto your body. Holy basil is known to elevate your spirit, nourish your heart, helps to process grief and fear along with a host of medicinal benefits (yet to be proven). However, we know science is a bit slow in regards to proving the efficacy of herbal medicine because there wouldn’t be any profit for big pharma. On that note, let’s check out what rose petals can do for the heart space.

Rose Petals

Roses have been around for about 35 million years and were regarded as a symbol of desire and secrecy in Roman mythology. Supposedly, the Romans would put this Venus ruled flower in their bedrooms to represent love and beauty. So it only makes sense that adding dried rose petals will help you to luxuriate in pleasure while showing you the innate abundance of love that resides within yourself. 

Chamomile 

Chamomile were used by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans for both medicinal and spiritual purposes. The ancient Egyptians even used chamomile to embalm the dead and honor the gods. It’s amazing to calm your nerves when tension is flaring and you’re unable to ground yourself. Let’s check out the next power ingredient on the list, damiana.

Damiana 

Traditionally used as an aphrodisiac, damiana helps you to open the portal of psychic awareness, giving you the ability to intuit your life with profound clarity. When you do, you can see that you are deserving of your own love. 

Passionflower 

Another power herb in this self-love herbal blend, passionflower has been used for thousands of years in spiritual, mental and physical healing. It’s been said passionflower will guide you towards transformation from suffering into purification. It’s also a calming herb so will help you to unwind in the midst of chaos. 

Now that you know the spiritual benefits of the tea, it’s time to make it. So you know organic is the way to go. But you may not have a “go to” place for buying them. I personally love Mountain Rose Herbs and do not receive a commission by mentioning them. They’ve been around for quite a bit and we’re supporting a small business instead of a behemoth. If you’re on the prowl for herbs and essential oils, I highly recommend them.

DIY self-love tea

Tea Recipe

What you’ll need: 
  • 4oz. tin or glass jar with lid 
  • mixing bowl
  • ceramic or wooden spoon
  • 4 tsp. Holy basil
  • 2 tsp. rose petals
  • 2 tsp. chamomile
  • 1 tsp. damiana leaves 
  • 1 tsp. passionflower

Note: The recipe uses all dried herbs. If you’re using fresh herbs, the shelf life will only be a few days before they spoil.

How to make:
  • Combine all the ingredients in the mixing bowl. 
  • Mix well and transfer to the tea tin or glass jar. 
  • Cover with a lid. 

You can store the herbs until they expire. If you’re unsure of the expiration date, it’s usually about two years from the package date. This blend isn’t just limited to drinking it as tea. Let’s find out the other ways you can incorporate this workhorse into your self-care routine.

Uses for the self-love herbal blend: 
  • Drink as tea
  • Dress a candle with olive oil for love & luck
  • Use as potpourri with some essential oils to de-stress and unwind
  • Make a tea bath 
  • Infuse in moon water for an elixir

How to make tea:
  • For an 8oz. mug, pour 1-1.5oz. herbal blend into a tea strainer.
  • Place the tea strainer into the mug.
  • Steep for about 5-8 minutes depending on how strong you like it.

Don’t wanna burn anything? Potpourri may be perfect for you.

How to make potpourri:
  • Pour the herbal mixture into a bowl. 
  • Drop your favorite essential oils into the herbs.
  • Stir until the oils and herbs are blended well.

You can even place the potpourri in your bathroom while you’re taking a bath with this blend for some added aromatherapy benefits. Let’s check out the tutorial for the tea bath.

How to make a tea bath:
  • Place about 4oz. of the herbal blend into a drawstring muslin or linen bag. 
  • Tie it up.
  • Hang the bag onto your bath faucet. 
  • Run water for a bath and let your worries soak away.
