With the Summer Solstice quickly approaching, June 21st to be exact, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to discuss the symbolism behind it.
Summer is just such an amazing season…the flowers are in full bloom, the water is warm enough to go swimming (though now that I live in the desert, this doesn’t apply to me anymore), the greenery is so lush and vibrant, it’s ice cream weather, we can wear dresses and sandals. Basically, there’s so much to relish in, how can we not be happy???
So, let’s get onto it. First thing’s first. The Summer Solstice for the Northern Hemisphere is when the sun reaches both its highest and most northern points in the sky. Which will create the longest day of the year.
Now, that we have the definition outta the way, we can get onto the deeper meaning behind it.
This is a time to rejoice in everything that you have cultivated as a result of ridding yourself of what was no longer serving you during the winter.
Remember when I spoke about the Winter Solstice being a time to dig deep within into your own darkness in order to release? Just in case you didn’t read that, you can read it here.
Well, the Summer Solstice is providing you with the opportunity to enjoy the lightness within so that you can exude it outwardly onto others. Notice how everyone is just so much happier when it’s summertime? Because the Winter time is a time of digression and now the Summer represents that excess junk that we’ve released. An analogy would be that the winter is a time to be introverted and the summer is a time to be extroverted.
Because the Sun is also out for most of the day and it is a ball of fire, we can harness this energy to be so beneficial for us. That’s right! This makes it a super great intention setting day because we have that zeal, passion, and energy to support us in what we choose to bring in. So, really start to think about your goals, where you are in life, what you want to bring in.
Whatever you do, don’t focus on lack. Like I said, we have the energies really supporting us right now, so take full f*cking advantage of this.
The Sun represents our vitality, happiness, true bliss. So whatever your goals are, go full throttle in it now. By the Fall Equinox, we get to start reaping the rewards and fruits of our labor. Make it count now.
Dream big and start small. Get that coach that you keep saying you’ll get to help you get your life back on track. Eat more greens like you continuously promise yourself you’ll do tomorrow. Cut down on the coffee intake that you say you’re going to do. Save more money like you repeatedly tell yourself you’ll come around to. Whatever your goals are, start now. There’s no time like the present, especially when the time is alignment to make things happen.
